NoteStream vs Granola: Meeting Notes and the Work That Follows

If your problem is meetings, capturing what was said on calls without typing everything yourself, Granola is the right tool, and NoteStream does not record or transcribe meetings. If your problem is everything that happens after the call and between calls, turning captures into filed tasks and handing them to your AI tools, NoteStream covers that, and the two work well side by side.

This comparison is a little unusual, because these products mostly do not compete. Granola is an AI meeting notes app. NoteStream is a capture-and-dispatch hub for notes, tasks, and reminders. People search for one against the other because both promise less manual note-taking. The useful question is not which one wins, but which gap in your week each one closes.

What Granola gets right

Granola solves a real and painful problem well. According to its site, it "uses your computer audio, so doesn't invite a bot," and works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, and other meeting apps. It transcribes in the background while you stay present in the conversation. You jot whatever rough notes you like, and Granola enhances them with what was actually said, so you end up with clean notes that still reflect what you thought mattered.

It reaches beyond the desktop, too. Granola lists apps for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android, and its mobile apps can take notes in in-person meetings. It syncs with your calendar to detect upcoming meetings. Granola Chat lets you ask questions across your meetings, and quick actions such as "List actions" and "Write follow-up email" turn a call into next steps fast.

It is also built to be shared. Notes are private by default and easy to share, the free plan includes shared folders and customized note templates, and the Business plan adds integrations with Attio, Notion, HubSpot, Affinity, and Zapier. The Granola MCP connector lets Claude, ChatGPT, and Claude Code search your meeting notes and pull out decisions and action items. You can read the details in Granola's MCP documentation.

If you spend most of your day on calls, Granola is a strong choice, and nothing here argues otherwise.

The two approaches, stated plainly

Granola's approach: the meeting is the unit of work. It captures the conversation, enhances your notes from the transcript, and makes the whole meeting history searchable and shareable.

NoteStream's approach: the capture is the unit of work. A capture can be a thought typed between AI sessions, a voice note, or an email forwarded to n@to.notestream.ai. AI classifies each one on arrival as a note, task, or reminder and files it into a thread for the right project or client. Tasks can then be dispatched to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or Lovable, with results returning to a Review Queue.

Put simply, Granola is excellent at the hour you spend in a meeting. NoteStream is aimed at the rest of the day, including what happens to the action items once the meeting ends.

A week with each

Picture an operator at a ten-person startup. Monday has four customer calls. Tuesday she is building a pricing model with Claude. Wednesday a partner email lands with three requests. Thursday she needs an onboarding bug fixed in Claude Code and a landing page mocked up in Lovable.

With Granola, Monday is handled. She takes rough notes on each call, Granola fills them in from the transcript, and "List actions" gives her the follow-ups before the next call starts. She shares the notes with her cofounder in a shared folder. That is a real improvement over typing furiously while trying to listen.

The rest of the week is where NoteStream earns its place. She pastes Monday's action list into the NoteStream capture box, and each item is classified and filed into the right customer thread. Tuesday's pricing conclusion, typed mid-session in Claude, becomes a task with a Friday deadline. The partner email is forwarded as-is. Thursday she dispatches the bug to Claude Code and the mockup to Lovable, and both results come back to the Review Queue attached to their tasks. The task delegation guide shows how that works.

If she uses Claude with both products, there is a natural bridge too. Granola's MCP connector lets Claude read her meeting notes, and NoteStream's personal API tokens let Claude capture items into NoteStream. Neither tool replaces the other in that setup. Granola remembers the conversation. NoteStream keeps the commitments moving.

  • You want transcription without a bot joining the call.
  • You want your rough notes enhanced with what was actually said.
  • Your team shares meeting notes in folders or pushes them to a CRM.
  • You want Claude or ChatGPT to search your meeting history through MCP.

Choose NoteStream if...

  • Most of your capture happens outside meetings, between AI sessions.
  • You want each capture classified as a note, task, or reminder automatically.
  • You want to send tasks to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or Lovable and review results in one place.
  • You organize work by project or client threads.
  • You already have a meeting tool and need somewhere for its action items to become tracked work.

Frequently asked questions

Does NoteStream record or transcribe meetings like Granola?

No. NoteStream does not record or transcribe meetings. Granola is built for that: it captures meeting audio from your computer without a bot and enhances your notes from the transcript. NoteStream takes captures by typing, voice, or forwarded email, classifies them as notes, tasks, or reminders, and files them into threads, so it pairs naturally with a meeting recorder rather than replacing one.

Can I use Granola and NoteStream together?

Yes, and for many operators that is the sensible setup. Use Granola to capture and summarize calls, then move the resulting action items into NoteStream by pasting them into the capture box or forwarding a follow-up email to n@to.notestream.ai. NoteStream files each item into the right thread and lets you dispatch tasks to your AI tools. If you work in Claude, Granola's MCP connector and NoteStream's API tokens can both be connected there.

Is Granola or NoteStream better as an AI task manager?

Granola focuses on meetings: it can list action items and draft follow-up emails from a call, and it makes meeting history searchable. NoteStream is designed as an AI task manager across your whole day. It classifies every capture as a note, task, or reminder, supports sub-tasks, answers questions like "what's due tomorrow?", and sends tasks to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or Lovable.

How does Granola pricing compare to NoteStream?

According to Granola's pricing page, its Basic plan is free with limited meeting history, Business is $14 per user per month, and Enterprise is listed at $35 per user per month. NoteStream has a free plan at $0 with 3 daily AI credits and a Pro plan at $14.99 per month. Because they solve different problems, many people will compare the cost of running both against the hours each one saves.

The real choice here is not either-or. Ask where your week leaks: inside meetings, or in everything that is supposed to happen after them. If it is the first, Granola is excellent at closing that gap. If it is the second, put your captures somewhere built to turn them into work your AI tools can take on. Try it free at notestream.ai.
